My Philosophy

 

Mission Statement:

The mission of the library information and technology program is to insure that library patrons are effective and ethical users of ideas and information.

 

Belief Statements

Learning

-         Students must be actively engaged in the learning process.

-         Faculty and students will work to achieve proficiency for all students.

-         Critical reading and listening is a skill essential to informed citizenship.

Instruction

-         Technology is an integral part of the learning process.

-         A variety of strategies and techniques will be used.

-         All work is data driven and research based.

-         Goals are aligned with AASL and ISTE curriculum standards.

-         Instruction is differentiated based on student needs and learning styles.

Assessment

-         Assessments are on-going.

-         Formative assessments are essential to demonstrate learning and guide instruction.

-         A variety of assessments will be used (i.e. formal, informal, teacher-observation, district assessments).

Relationships

-         Education should be a collaborative effort among staff, parents, and students.

-         All stakeholders will display a positive attitude.

-         Two way communication is vital for relationship building between staff, students, and parents.

Expectations

-         A high performing learning culture will be promoted by all stakeholders.

-         All stakeholders will hold the highest expectations for all students in order for the students to reach their highest potential.

 

Vision Statement

An exempliary K-12 school library program is committed to supporting and enhancing the district’s core values of academic excellence, respect, a positive learning environment for all students, and open communication to share ideas, resources and responsibilities.  The teacher-librarian collaborates with other stake‐holders to promote critical thinking skills and strategies for students to become active and independent learners. The K-12 library program will:

  • be the center of inquiry, knowledge, and creativity for the school.

  • provide information literacy instruction to students.

  • provide a diverse collection of digital and print resources.

  • collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure effective use of library resources and continued instruction in current and future technologies.

  • partner with local public libraries to provide a broader scope of resources.

  • maintain a strong online presence to meet the needs of students beyond the school day.

  • provide consistent instruction and resources throughout the district.
